Blow it Up: More than anything, what is paramount about this card is how rare it is for groups to do this. As educators, we love to imagine that all of our ideas are good. But, in truth, we need more opportunities to just push for quantity and forget about being perfect for a second. Our students' obsession with perfection often is a reflection of a trait that we embody. Quantity allows us to explore new ground.
What is the benefit of getting crazy ideas out on the table? We want to innovate, we want to think differently, but often the search for quality confines us to incrementally adjusting the current status quo. By pushing for volume instead of quality, we can explore ground that is less traveled. True, some of our crazy ideas do not deserve to be developed, but often seeds of innovation and creativity are found on the fringe and the fringe is left unexplored without the opportunity to let go of quality for just a second. So, in your next meeting, push for some quantity and let go of quality for just a bit. Reality will be there for you when you get back.
