Habits, Mindsets and Skill Sets for the 21 Century
Students Take Charge of Their Own Learning
Problem Identifiers and Solution Makers
At Leadership+Design we strive to create design thinkers and young leaders who are empathetic, creative, collaborative and adaptable solution makers who can make a positive difference in a rapidly changing world.
In most schools, students answer the problems teachers give them. They work to get the "right answers" and are penalized for mistakes and "wrong answers"
Design Thinking is the antidote to the traditional teaching and learning dynamic. Students explore real-world problems without easy solutions. In fact, they usually work in teams to identify the problem they want to solve. They take charge of their own learning. They quickly learn that the greatest challenges have no "right answers" but there are always more interesting questions and better solutions.
Design Thinking also builds lifeworthy mindsets, skill sets and habits that students can use in school and beyond. These include:
"Yes, And. . ."
Giving and Receiving Feedback
Divergent and Convergent Thinking
Understanding Patterns and Systems
Managing Group Life - Task and Maintenance
Inquiry and Curiosity (of self and others)
Reframing Questions/Definition and Redefinition
Leadership + Design can bring a design thinking experience for students to your school in the form of a day-long, three-day, or week-long challenge. We can also work with faculty and staff to master the skills necessary to replicate the experience in future years. Contact Carla Silver
