" The future doesn't arrive fully formed. It emerges step by step." - Amy Webb, The Signals are talking.
A leader in today's rapidly accelerating world, needs to develop the mindsets and skill sets of futurists - not the ability to predict the future, but rather a way to identify signals, fringe trends, and extreme users and then to imagine many alternate realities that might come about. Future U provides the time and space for school leaders to develop these skills and find ways to bring them back to their own schools.
Future U is a four-week online experience that equips participants with a framework for designing possible futures and builds specific skills that can help school leaders prepare for the unknown and ambiguous decades ahead. Week 1 - The Signals are Talking - Identifying fringe trends in your world and in your school. Explore the minds of extreme users and innovators and learn what they are doing and why. What would it look like if the mainstream caught up with them? How can we get curious and avoid the fear that comes from looking at the future. Week 2 - Emerging Technologies - We will study some of the emerging technologies on the horizon, AI, autonomous transportation, drones, biohacking, de-extinction, humanlike robots, gene editing and more. What are these technologies and how might they impact the world in the next 25 years? Participants will design artifacts from school in 2045 that tell the stories of possibilities. Week 3- Future School Participants will select one emerging technology and design and prototype three versions of the school experience 25 years in the future - the program and the space - Week 4- The Futurist School - Participants will explore ways to integrate this kind of thinking into their school communities and also how to help schools make ethical decisions about future possible scenarios. How can schools be more proactive in designing the future rather than allowing the future to happen to us.
This program will run two times in 2019 March and October.
