Garrett Mason (@GarrettWMason) is an educator, designer, and school leader—but he considers himself first and foremost a learner. He has worked for 12 years in the field of education in teaching, adult training, curriculum development, and program design. He currently serves as the Director of Innovation + Design at St. Martin's Episcopal School in Metairie, Louisiana, where he runs a school-wide curricular program to foster student ownership of learning and the development of skills and mindsets in students.
Garrett has served as an independent and public school educator and administrator, teaching a variety of subjects at the primary and secondary school levels and initiating innovation and experiential learning programs for schools throughout the U.S. He has worked extensively with 4.0 Schools—and early stage incubator for new educational initiatives—as a coach and mentor (and now as a fellow) to reimagine the future of school. He has also worked in education internationally, serving as a Peace Corps Education Volunteer in Liberia and running community development and design thinking training programs for educators in Guatemala, Malawi, Morocco, and Senegal. Of all of his accomplishments, he may be most proud of establishing a scholarship for supporting bright, motivated Liberian students to attend university.
He believes passionately in empowering people with the tools they need for creating change within their own organizations and communities.
