Like most schools, your school is likely trying to find a way to celebrate the Class of 2020. Whether it is a 5th grade, 8th grade or high school graduation, you want to create an event that signifies this rite of passage and the numerous achievements of the students. We see a lot of schools trying to “move graduation online” or find ways to replicate the ceremony in a “drive in” format, but many of these ideas are solutions without defined stakeholder needs. This year graduation will be different, so consider designing something that meets the needs of your graduates and their families rather than trying to recreate “graduation” as it has always been.
Designers identify needs through empathy that lead to insights. In this 90 minute design sprint, you will learn how to:
- Gather stories that will lead you to understand the needs of students and families;
- Turn those learnings into valuable insights that connect to stakeholder motivations, values perspectives and feelings and that are human centered;
- Generate ideas that lead to solutions that are more creative and deeply personal to your students;
- Build prototypes that lead to feedback and iteration;
In the end, you will have the tools to design a meaningful and connected graduation experience and one that may look very different from what you have always done, but captures the feelings and meets the needs that your community has in this moment.
