Free L+D Events

Our next L+Doers Unite! events has been scheduled! You should have received a calendar invite. If you didn’t, please contact joe [at] leadershipanddesign.org.

WTF: Climate , with L+D Executive Director, Carla Silver

(early March - date forthcoming)

This session applies L+D’s toolkit for Futurist Thinking to a singular issue: our ongoing environmental crisis. We’ll learn and leverage futurist thinking to imagine how schools might adapt and evolve to meet the needs, address the challenges, and leverage the opportunities of these unexplored futures. Participants will explore ways to approach the ongoing environmental crisis within their school communities, and they will also develop their Futurist Thinking toolkit by experiencing how it might be used on a singular, critical topic for schools.

Our subsequent 2023-2024 events were designed in response to your feedback as well as our L+D themes for next year, and you'll see a combination of returning formats and new experiments. We are also excited that we'll be offering eight free events to members next year:

Spring Unconference

(early April - date forthcoming)

This is the second peer-to-peer learning opportunity of the 23-24 season. Members share what they’re doing and members select the topics that they’re interested in. It’s also a modeling of maintenance activities we can use to build professional communities together on campus.

Stick the Landing: Maintenance 2.0 with L+D Collaborator, Joe Romano

(early May - date forthcoming)

With a month left in many school calendars, this session is focused on sharing, exploring, and developing approaches to human centered endings to the school year among colleagues. Participants will advance approaches to guiding groups to create closure, share gratitude, and sustain energy and optimism for the upcoming school year.

Lean Coffee

(late June - date forthcoming)

Lean Coffee is a open format approach to meetings that encourages participants to develop an agenda to explore together. We serve our Lean Coffee with a twist: this particular session is distinctly focused on helping members develop potential partnerships among one another for work we have on the horizon, whether over the summer or into the coming year. Meet with members, find out what they’re up to, and find ways to harness the collective power of L+Doers Unite! to amplify your work.

While these events have already occurred in our 23-24 season, they give you an idea of the types of experiences you can expect next Fall as we prepare the 24-25 lineup.

The Feedback Lab, with L+D Senior Partner, Ryan Burke

Thursday, February 15, 11:00am ET / 8:00a PT (Option 1)

Thursday, February 15, 7:00pm ET / 4:00p PT (Option 2)

This session explores the difference between feedback and judgement, and how well focused efforts to offer feedback can unlock the potential for someone to actually put that feedback to work in their learning. Throughout the experience, participants will learn and practice ways to establish a truer culture of feedback at their schools as well as how to handle the multitude of reactions to feedback in a way that builds agency and trust.

Design for Culture, with Greg Bamford, Shu Shu Costa, and Chandani Patel

Tuesday, January 9, 11:00am ET / 8:00am PT (Option 1)

Wednesday, January 10, 7:00pm ET / 4:00pm PT (Option 2)

This is a design thinking experience for educators who want to explore ways to see their culture clearly and shift it in positive ways. Pulling from L+D's new two-day CultureLab program launching Spring 2024, participants will practice observing the behaviors, rituals, and artifacts that reflect deeper values, assumptions, and hierarchies in their culture -- and articulate an aspiration for their future culture.

Fall Unconference

Monday, October 30, 7:00pm ET / 4:00pm PT

This is a peer-to-peer learning opportunity where members share what they’re doing and members select the topics that they’re interested in. It’s also a modeling of maintenance activities we can use to build professional communities together on campus.

Empathize & Prototype: A Build for Change Workshop with L+D Associate, Tara Curry-Jahn

Monday, October 2, 3:00pm ET / 12:00pm PT

Empathy (tools, processes and mindsets) informing decision making and leveraging a culture of prototyping are core through lines that make human centered design thinking relevant to education. In this workshop, participants will practice with these design content and tools and will leave with a deeper understanding on how to use them to build and sustain change initiatives in your school or system. Participants can also preview materials for Build for Change, a new L+D program launching this fall.

Ignite Your Creativity, with L+Doers Crystal Land, Shu Shu Costa, and Antonio Viva

Monday, September 11, 12:00pm ET / 9:00am PT

L+Doers, please join us for a focused and lively 75-minute session to spark your creativity and deepen your understanding of personal writing practice. This workshop, led by Crystal Land, Shu Shu Costa and Antonio Viva, offers a guided exploration of writing’s core elements, hands-on exercises, and insight into the regular practice’s multifaceted benefits. We’ll delve into why cultivating a steady writing routine is crucial for personal growth and cognitive enhancement, bridging creativity and self-expression. A thoughtful discussion on the creative process versus the final product will help participants grasp how both facets nurture the writer’s evolution. Ideal for writers, thinkers, educators, students, and creative minds at any stage, this workshop serves as an inspiring gateway to your writing journey. Sample L+D’s new program, Write Your Journey, embark on this enriching experience with the L+Doers community, transform your connection to the written word!

L+Doers Unite events are scheduled via Doodle sent to all current members, helping us serve the most members possible. We may adjust topics based on member feedback.

We have a dedicated workspace on Slack for L+Doers to share ideas and articles, ask questions and give answers, get feedback on their work, tell jokes and feel connected. The link below should take you to set up your L+Doers Unite Slack account.
